The new SLS AMG GT might be the last Gullwing we get…
“We probably won’t do a Volkswagen Golf 5, 6, 7 with the SLS because of the unique gullwing doors and so on and so forth. It’s not something you just do one after the after,” said AMG CEO Ola Kallenius. “I am not suggesting we should wait 55 years to do the next gullwing car, but certainly not straight after the one we have done now. That needs to sit in automotive history as its own chapter.”
Pertaining to when the SLS Gullwing will end, he said “We haven’t said yet — we will say soon. But if you want to buy one strike now.”
While we are sad to see the Gullwing go, we recognize that the doors are not the focus of this cars real glory… The specs of the 2020 SLS AMG GT Gullwing are as impressive as expected;
“The maximum output of the AMG 6.3-liter V8 front mid-engine has been increased to 583 hp at 6800 rpm, while the maximum torque is maintained at 479 lb/ft at 4750 rpm. These changes yield a 0–60 mph acceleration time of 3.6 (est) seconds with a max speed of 197mph (electronically limted)” — Mercedes-Benz Press Release 2019
Below is a picture from the Daimler engine dyno testing the 2020 SLS AMG GT, the glowing headers are always impressive!
