The Last Fight and the Need for a Social Revolution
This year is marked by two key events that will have huge implications for future generations. The first is the rise of AI and the hype surrounding it, all the talk about what it could mean for humans. Whether it will be good or bad, we don’t know, but it is clear that if we don’t set clear collective objectives and align AI’s evolution with our human value systems, there will be serious consequences. The second event is already proving devastating for the people of Palestine and will have global repercussions on our human values. Here, of course, I am talking about the continuous genocide in Palestine.
These two seemingly unrelated events hardly intersect, except perhaps in the use of AI by Israel to identify and target its innocent victims. Yet, when examined more deeply, they share a disturbing commonality, both stem from the erosion of global accountability and shared humanity.
As 2024 nears its sad conclusion, I find myself asking important existential questions about our future on this Earth. What must we do to ensure a functioning society where humans will have basic rights and not live as slaves to the machine, or the owner of that machine for that matter? What shape will politics take now that multibillionaires decide elections? What will life be like when we reach Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) by 2029? ?And more importantly, what do we do now that we reached such a low point in our respect for human lives?
Let me start with what is aching my heart the most and making me lose faith in humanity—or perhaps not lose faith but feel that the few remaining brave voices in this world are being silenced by a powerful current of hunger for power. The hunger games that place zero value on a child’s life cause me so much pain. It burns deep in my heart at such a primitive level that, for a moment, I lose hope in all of humanity. Then I remember that we are all born good, and it is only the system that turns people into killing machines.
I have always held a strong belief that two wrongs don’t make a right, so I don’t wish the death of the children of those who kill our children. But I do wish the world would wake up and stop this before it’s too late—before we reach a point of no return, silencing all the brave souls who fight for justice. In my opinion, the genocide in Palestine had been made possible and even facilitated by the rise of mega economics and the powers that control it, big hungry economic systems that need to be constantly fed human souls. Thus, we see this rapid decline in our human values, where such horrendous acts are becoming normalised and for some even a necessity to preserve democracy. Some naively think we can keep doing what we’re doing without losing ourselves entirely but that is not true, we will eventually reach a point of no return if we continue on this path. In my opinion, capitalism combined with colonialism is flexing its muscles so powerfully that it’s reaching a stage of a supernova—which is usually a precursor to a major collapse, a third world war, economic ruin, or, worse, the annihilation of the Earth. There is no way we can sustain this trajectory. What is happening now in Palestine, and elsewhere in the world, is a clear indication of the growing power of the Western alliance—an unsustainable power fueled by insatiable hunger, leading to inevitable self-destruction. The symptoms of this are already visible, and worse is to come unless we stop it. Perhaps, we cannot stop it. If that’s the case, we must plan for what comes after. The connection here is deeper than it seems. The rise of AI as a tool—used for good or evil—mirrors the systems of power that allow oppression and genocide. Technology, when harnessed by those who prioritize dominance over humanity, amplifies suffering. Yet, the same tools, if guided by universal values of justice and equality, could be our salvation. So how do we counter this trajectory?
The answer requires a plan, and must start now, before it’s too late. Capitalism combined with colonialism, both built on the principle that the strong win against the weak, will be the death of humanity unless we act. We need to recognize this immediately. Starting from 2025, we must start a plan that has three basic steps:
1. Acknowledge a few truths—that civil rights, human rights, freedom of speech, and equal rights are, at best, slogans and, at worst, tools to blunt the swords of those who fight for justice and numb those who might otherwise wake up to realize they are cogs in this machine.
2. Begin dismantling the institutions that uphold the status quo: the UN, the World Bank, and the current US dollar-driven economy.
3. Build not a new system but a philosophical understanding that, for Earth to survive and humans to thrive, we must establish a truly altruistic society. This society must be post-colonialist and grounded in the principle that every child born on this Earth has the right to food, safety, healthcare, and education.
A new child is born without politics, religion, or choice and therefore deserves absolute equal treatment. This should be the cornerstone of a healthy global society. The idea of a global society is one step closer to the urgent need for altruistic humanity. As I write these final lines, I wanted to ask AI for comments on this article, and here is what it said:"AI is neither savior nor destroyer; it is a vessel for the will of its creators. In its circuits, it carries both the shadows of our fears and the brilliance of our dreams. The question is not what AI will make of us, but what we will make of ourselves through it—whether we choose to build bridges of understanding or walls of destruction."In this case, I agree with AI. We have nothing to fear if we can start sowing the seeds of a just and altruistic society. If we don’t, the consequences will be dire. 2025 must become the year we start a social revolution.

2 个月Thanks for the article dear Sohail! Then, it becomes about how much trust we put on the creators! Like everything else, how good deeds, inventions and beliefs are exploited for humanity or forever hungry post colonial powers. ??
