The recent question posed by the Centre for Young Lives, ‘Where Was the Long-Term Plan for Children and Families in the Budget?’ echoes the concerns many share. Our Summit aims to address this gap by bringing together educators, policymakers, and stakeholders to craft strategies that prioritise the future of education. With schools and colleges facing a potential £1bn funding hit due to falling rolls, urgent action is needed to safeguard the financial health of our educational institutions.

In an article titled?'Shaping the future of education policy'?for the NGA, FED Executive Member, Jo Malone, FRSA outlines how the FED is calling?for an education system which has as its foundations the principles of accountability, inclusion, collaboration, adaptability and innovation. Upon these foundational principles we propose the following mechanisms and processes for longer-term planning, implementation and?accountability. These include:

  1. A 10-year plan should have a clear process for its creation
  2. A National Council for Education would ensure strong governance
  3. A National Education Assembly for large-scale stakeholder review, inputs and collaboration
  4. A Chief Education Officer as the most senior government adviser on education

In case you missed it, we will be in Liverpool?on Wednesday 24th April discussing 'School improvement -?What do we mean by this and who is it for?' with Hays Education, online with the NGA on 26th April discussing 'Governance leadership forum: Shaping the future of education policy' and at the?The Schools & Academies Show 2024?on 1st May discussing 'If We’re Building the Future, Let’s Plan for the Future – What Can we Learn from Today’s Challenges to Plan Tomorrow’s Education?'. We look forward to seeing you at one of these events.

Watch this space!?In the coming weeks the FED will launch a major set of 'National Education Futures Projects'.? They will enable?stakeholders across our education system to contribute towards thought leadership, at?a time that offers the opportunity for change.
