Once upon a time, there was a magnificent king who ruled a kingdom. One day, a foreign visitor came to his court and presented the king with a beautiful stone as a gift.
The king was very pleased to see the stone. He decided to have an idol of Lord Vishnu made from it and installed in the temple of the kingdom, and he entrusted this task to the prime minister of the state.
The prime minister went to the best sculptor in the village and handed him the stone, saying, “The king wants an idol of Lord Vishnu to be installed in the temple. You need to prepare the idol from this stone and deliver it to the palace within seven days. You will be given 50 gold coins for this.”
Hearing about the 50 gold coins, the sculptor became happy. After the prime minister left, he took out his tools to begin the work. Among his tools, he picked up a hammer and started striking the stone to break it. However, the stone remained intact. The sculptor struck the stone several times with the hammer, but it did not break.
After trying fifty times, the sculptor picked up the hammer one last time, but before striking, he thought that if the stone hadn't broken after fifty strikes, it wouldn't break now.
He returned the stone to the prime minister, saying that it was impossible to break the stone and that an idol of Lord Vishnu could not be made from it.
The prime minister had to fulfill the king's order under any circumstances. So, he assigned the task of making the idol of Lord Vishnu to a simple sculptor from the village. The sculptor took the stone and struck it with a hammer in front of the prime minister, and the stone broke in one strike.
After breaking the stone, the sculptor started making the idol. Meanwhile, the prime minister thought that if only the first sculptor had made one last attempt, he would have succeeded and earned the 50 gold coins.
