Laser Vs. Electrolysis Hair Removal

Laser Vs. Electrolysis Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal

It only works on dark hair. The laser light is attracted to melanin (colour of the hair), heating the follicle and destroying the hair root.??The hairs need to be trimmed before treatment for two reasons. The first because the laser light will travel the shortest distance and we don’t want it to go up the hair follicle but down to the root. So the shorter the hair above the skin the better. The second reason when we are do laser treatment sometimes you may smell burning hair and we don’t want that hair to sing on the skin so the shorter the hair the better.

We are very particular about where you can and cannot shave and trim the hairs especially when it’s on the facial hairs. We don’t want to increase the area of unwanted hair and will also help you break the habit of trimming and plucking.??It feels like a hot rubber band twang and there is a flash of light, but you will be wearing protective eye goggles. With Laser we can treat a number of hairs in one shot and it is the fastest way to treat unwanted hair. Treatments are every 4-6 weeks, and the amount of trimming hairs should reduce.?

As the laser is attracted to melanin we need your skin tone to remain the same without any real or fake tan as this will confuse the laser light. We do not recommend any treatments 4 weeks before a sunny holiday and 4 weeks after you return. However, if you return with a good tan, then we will need to wait longer for the tan to fade. The darker the tan the longer we need to wait. As tanned skin is burnt skin and us doing a heat treatment on burnt skin, it is a higher risk of burning or scarring. This is more important for darker skin as they will hold their tan longer and have a higher risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation (PIHP).?

Electrolysis Hair Removal

Using a fine needle-like an eyelash, hair is inserted into the hair follicle, releasing a current that heats up the hair bulb of the hair, destroying the hair. The probe is removed and the treated hair before inserting the probe again into the next follicle. The treatment procedure is one hair at a time to complete the whole treatment area. You leave the clinic with no hairs and the skin being hair free.

The hair must be at least half to one centimetre long or have 3-4 days or more of hair growth. Electrolysis is mainly for facial hair growth it is not suitable for large areas on the body we have other methods available such as Laser and waxing.? We mainly do electrolysis on the face, and it is popular with our PCOS and menopausal as well as transgender clients.?

Treatment needs to be carried out every one to two weeks, depending on the hair growth pattern and the area being treated. With no trimming or plucking in between. Any hair colour can be treated most popular are red, white, grey, ginger, and dark hair. Electrolysis is base on the amount of hairs you have and the time required to treat the whole area. Laser and Electrolysis – Permanent Hair Reduction

Laser and electrolysis are both forms of permanent hair reduction. We are treating the symptoms of hair growth not the cause. There are a number of causes for unwanted hair growth from hormones, medication to inheditary. We can only treat the hair that is there and any future growth through hormones or medication we can only treat once the hair has grown.?

Short term temporary methods such as waxing (on the face), threading, plucking, shaving and hair removal creams will only make the problem worse. Transitioning soft vellus hair to thick coarse hair.? Read blog on Why women shouldn’t shave their face and how it starts.

We often combine Laser with electrolysis treatment both are forms of permanent hair removal.??Laser is great for dark hairs and fast results and you don’t need to grow the hairs. With electrolysis treatment is slower one hair a t a time and you need to grow the hairs and visits to the clinic are more frequent depending on the hair growth cycle.?

What does permanent hair removal mean??

Permanent hair removal means the hair that there is now will be permanently gone. Not permanent and stops any future growth from is due to hormones or medication or if it’s inheditary. We cannot stop our body from producing hair if there is an underlying cause for hair growth. After a course of treatments, we are able to identify if there is an underly cause/reason for your hair growth and normally recommend a visit to your GP. This is why a hair consultation is recommended to help set expectations if it will be hair removal treatment or a hair management plan of treatment.?

The indicators that your treatment is working

We expect our client to come back and say the hairs are growing back but are softer, and they are not trimming as often, can see a slowdown in hair growth there are patches where the hair has not grown back. And of course the best is when clients need to postpone their treatment because the hairs have not grown back and are getting longer in between treatments! When we do hair removal treatments we don’t only remove the hairs but also help break the habit of many years of plucking and shaving. We have all the years of experience and proven technology, which is the easy part; often clients find it harder to break their habit that they don’t have any hairs to trim or pluck!

What is effective hair removal?

What is effective hair removal? We say it’s the confidence of being able to leave the house without the worry of any unwanted hairs on show especially on the face for women. And the longest gap in between appointments without doing any short-term temporary methods of hair removal such as plucking shaving thread and trimming. So you can live life without having to focus it around hair removal methods and treatments. Such as going swimming, feeling confident on holiday in your swimsuit. No afternoon shadow showing or having to pluck hairs before going out fear of someone seeing them.
