Large format web presses or a different model?
Having worked with a UK printer with 72 page web presses, we found that we were competing with other printers with a 16 page press model. One reel size per title (rather than many for the big presses), to deliver only 16 and 8 page sections, lower manning levels and big binders gave good pricing and some publisher benefits. Another major benefit from a printer who runs 16 or 32 page presses able to take standard 870 mm reels for A4 is that paper is available faster so scheduling can be quicker rather than waiting for much bigger reel sizes.
One question for print buyers now is what is the lead time for paper for your presses - you will find that the larger presses need paper ordered 6-8 weeks in advance whereas for single circumference 16 presses and double circumference 32 page presses it is much shorter. Food for thought!

6 年There is a definite benefit in quality and make ready paper savings also Marcus , the 32pp Lithoman technology is outstanding and any one running Goss , MAN or Komori 16pp presses that are under 10 years old should be able to produce a great job

6 年Standardisation in 870 reels is a major consideration to improve productivity and one that we have adopted.
