Landscaping Season is upon us...

Landscaping Season is upon us...

A note from?George Davies:

"Spring usually (although it isn't guaranteed...) arrives in March, and the frequent sunny days provide the opportunity for an increasing range of landscaping projects.

For those hardy landscapers, we hope it’s a time when the recent storms are behind us, and for those landscapers who have been in hibernation, it’s now time to come out and smell the freshly cut grass.

We're blessed with such a talented pool of landscaping professionals here in the UK, and it's now the time to show your clients the exceptional skills you have".

George's Take: Early Spring Advice

March is always seen as the start of spring, but often can give us a 'false spring' with a few weeks of mild weather followed by another cold spell and even frost. From my point of view, March is all about preparation. We know the days will get warmer very quickly over the coming months and the grass will grow rapidly for a few weeks. Then it will either turn blistering hot, or we will have a warm wet summer and the grass will just not stop growing.

So, lets make sure 2024 is a year when we control the controllables;

1. Service, sharpen and prepare

Make sure all your mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, chain saws, leaf blowers and anything else mechanical that you use is fully serviced, sharpened and ready for the season ahead.

2. Work with the weather, not against it

If temperatures allow, you can start aeration and moss killing. Especially with the amount of rainfall we have had this last winter, your lawn will be in need of some nutrients very soon. If some of your clients' lawns have a sandy soil profile and their lawn is looking a bit anaemic then I would recommend some iron sulphate (Greenkeepers call it green paint) to give your lawn a lot more colour.

While the clay soils will hold onto the nutrients better, the amount of rainfall we have had recently will mean they will all demand more fertiliser than this time last year, so make sure you have it in stock and are ready to apply it as the temperatures increase.

3. Plan ahead and contact your suppliers

Make contact with all your suppliers and give them the heads up of any large projects that you have planned this year. Having worked in the landscaping industry for over 23 years, the more communication between our customers and suppliers, the better we can all help each other out.

What's happening at GDT?

In the last month things at GDT have kicked back into action massively. This is the time of year we invest heavily in our team to make sure they all have the latest skillsets to provide our customers with the very best levels of customer service - something we pride ourselves on. Over the last few weeks we've been inducting our two brilliant new starters, Jo Boardman and Liam Paul Greenhow.

Though sadly, we say goodbye to our St Albans driver Simon Spurr , but we wish him every success in his new career.

Your Business Expo Northamptonshire was a raving success last month, and our internal pancake challenge was also great fun. If you missed that, be sure to follow our social channels;

And finally, later this month, be sure watch out for those hidden eggs in our deliveries... ????

Customer Project Spotlight

CJS Landscapes & Design

CJS Landscapes project based in Harpenden

This stunning project involved a complete garden transformation for a client that had several different sections of garden needing a total overhaul and re-design including bespoke and custom-made aspects. Charlie from CJS Landscapes took the project on confidently using GDT products.

“All the guys have been great and helpful and the turf has been the best I’ve ever had. George came to look at one of my projects recently and I found him very down to earth and professional, it was nice to have a chat with someone likeminded.”
