Harnessing digital innovation for landscape-led solutions

Advances in digital technology are changing the way we operate across both the built and natural environment, and providing increasingly impactful landscape solutions to the challenges we as a sector face.?

Digital innovation in the landscape sector is revolutionising collaboration and communication with other industries, facilitating more efficient project delivery and management, and most importantly, providing better outcomes for climate, nature, and public health. As the Landscape Institute (LI) prepares for its upcoming conference, Digital Practice & Technology for Landscape, on 11th July, we are excited by what to expect.

This is a vital new report on carbon reduction in the UK landscape sector by the Landscape Institute (LI) and the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI). A direct response to the UK’s target to reach net zero by 2050, the report sets out eight key recommendations for action.

For... the green skills shortage

The Landscape Institute’s Skills for Greener Places research found that the UK has major green skills gaps, which are inhibiting its ability to deliver on its plans for local climate adaptation and nature recovery. The Landscape Institute will continue to research this issue, and work with industry bodies to demand policy that addresses it.?

For…landscape-led solutions

Landscape professionals are essential for the efficient planning, community-led design and resourceful management of the landscape – in both urban and rural contexts. With these skills and expertise, we can provide the solutions to address the climate and biodiversity emergencies, benefit health and well-being, address the housing crisis, enhance community cohesion, and mitigate against heat and flooding.?

This year’s Futurebuild was valuable and interesting as always, offering a range of session topics and providing networking opportunities for attendees, detailed discussions, and original, expert insights. The Landscape Institute and British Association of Landscape Industries launched our recent ‘Landscape and Carbon’ report this year - ?my colleague Ruhela Begum, Events Lead at the Landscape Institute, said ‘It was great to see so many professionals engaged and listening to the sessions, we were really pleased with the reception it got’.
