Landmarks Newsletter: January 2024 Edition
Happy new year! Since the winter solstice, the days are slowly getting longer. Winter is often a time when we reflect, review what?we've done over the past year and the journeys we've travelled. It's also a time to look?at our aspirations for the future, as individuals and communities. As we consider our?impact and successes, we thank you for all that you have contributed to connecting and conserving nature in the last year.? This January, we are?asking the province to prioritize nature through programs like the Greenlands Conservation Partnership. We are also asking you to help by contributing to the provincial budget consultation process - see more below on what you can do! This is also a time when?we review our ongoing work and priorities. We consider our progress and how?together we can build a more equitable and climate resilient?future. We also?revisit our progress towards reconciliation with Indigenous peoples in Ontario. Here is a reminder of our commitment,?so you can join in keeping us accountable to this vision - OLTA Commitment on Indigenous Conservation and Engagement. There are many stories within the land trust community that reflect some of these?steps, and over the next few months we will be sharing more of these.? Scroll down to read the latest news!
Thank you! Thank you for contributing to our end of year fundraising campaign. We are deeply grateful. Your support allows us to continue the advocacy, education and engagement work that is so important to the land trust community.?
Take action to strengthen the Greenlands Conservation Partnership! Over the past four years, the Greenlands Conservation Partnership has helped Ontario land trusts secure more than 60 new properties. We are asking that Greenlands be renewed with a commitment of $25 million each year over the next four years. You can help by taking part in our action alert here?and asking your MPP to commit their support. And don't forget about the power of talking - let your family, friends, and networks know about the importance of this program, and encourage them to take action too. By increasing the protected lands in Ontario, we help to preserve biodiversity, increase access to nature for more people, and build resilience to climate change.
If you or your land trust has news to share, send it to Rebecca at rebecca.weigand@olta.ca and we'll do our best to include it in an upcoming newsletter and/or social media post. We're on LinkedIn (and Instagram and Facebook)! Look for us there, join us, and share our content as we help build our LinkedIn presence. And please tag us in your posts!
