Landlocked Oil finds way. $3.55B heated pipeline
Uganda and Tanzania signed an agreement on building $3.55B crude export pipeline. It will be world's longest electrically heated crude oil pipeline and enable pumping Ugandan oil to international markets in three years. The pipeline will be heated so it can keep the highly viscous crude liquid enough to flow.
Total, China's Cnooc and Britain's Tullow Oil are owners of Ugandan oilfields. Total will be funding (partly) pipeline's construction. The 1,445 km pipeline will start in landlocked Uganda's western region, (crude reserves discovered in 2006) and terminate at Tanzania's Indian Ocean seaport of Tanga. Uganda estimates overall crude reserves at 6.5 billion barrels, while recoverable reserves are seen at between 1.4 - 1.7 billion barrels.
Tanzania competed with neighboring Kenya for this pipeline. Uganda's preference was for this route as it was shorter and more secure. If only Canada / Alberta can get few guys competing to get our oil to tide water?
Imagine never having heard of Beatles, if Brian Epstein had never seen the Beatles, if John, Paul, George and Ringo had continued to play “undiscovered” in the Cavern Club. Hard to imagine?
I'm just sitting here watching the wheels go round and round.
