Landing $1,000/Month Congressional Internships - New Year & New Money

For Interns and Fellows across the nation, Congress is going to be very different in 2019.

A healthy pot of money is available for internships for the first time ever. Those lucky enough to land a paid internship should fire off a letter of gratitude to Pay Our Interns.

Success has a thousand fathers, but the only organization that can truly take credit for millions in funding is POI. Over the years, the Congress has been the beneficiary of thousands of hours of free labor. So track down Carlos Mark Vera and give him a hug. Because to Carlos, Congress finally did the right thing.

Now, as always, it's time to roll up our sleeves. Half-measures have availed us nothing. If summer congressional internships weren't already competitive, they will be now. With money at stake, you need to approach a congressional internship like you were approaching a Staff Assistant position.

Not only do you need to get serious, you need to start early. For Summer 2019 internships, the process begins now. If you wait until March-April you will be have missed the train. Summer internships are already full speed ahead and there shall be a frenzy for the $14 Million in funding.

In terms of cash, never start the conversation with money. But once you land an offer, it's OK to mention comp. Every House office has tens of thousands of dollars in play. This money does not come from the MRA. Like student loan repayment, it's a separate pool of funds. Chiefs of Staff love resources that don't come from the MRA.

So Happy New Year! Make a resolution to start the year off right. The process is simple but not always easy. There are thousands of openings. You only need one. So work hard, work smart, and don't be afraid to ask for help.

If are interested in an internship (or a job) visit www.timeonthehill.com and let's get to work. Since 2012, we have helped more than 2,000 incredible individuals from Chief of Staff to Staff Assistant land jobs in Congress.

It's time to apply your natural ability and talent to build a better, stronger, smarter Congress in 2019!
