Land of the Tratturi: Experiencing the Hidden Treasures of Molise
October 2018 cultural and culinary tour of Molise
A region nestled between Abruzzo and Puglia with a front door on the Adriatic... a place unknown to most people, and yet, one of the oldest settled areas in Europe. Join us to savor the culture and heritage of regional cities, mountain villages and surrounding landscapes. The Molisani keep customs alive in the forms of traditional agriculture, architecture, cuisine and lifestyle. Examples are particularly rich in the towns of Campobasso, Larino, Agnone and Bonefro, all of which we visit.

Of great importance to me is Bonefro, the ancestral home of my mother's father. While many Bonefrani came to America, one of the best known is Tony Vaccaro, whose dramatic World War II photographs documented the US GIs in Europe. Vaccaro later became a celebrated photographer who took pictures of John F. Kennedy, Picasso, Sophia Loren and Georgia O'Keefe, among many noteworthy people. In 2016, HBO broadcast "Under Fire: The Untold Story of Pfc. Tony Vaccaro."

We invite you to share and enjoy these unique experiences with an adventure next October 23 – 29; the link: Molise (https://foodstoriestravel.com/molise). In addition, we can organize an extended trip beyond the 28th and anticipate journeying south into Puglia, land of trulli (unique stone dwellings), and perhaps visit Matera, a city in which people settled in caves!
