Land of the Free, the Brave, and the Inventive
WE THE PEOPLE of Beem Patent Law Firm, together with JOHN ADAMS and THOMAS JEFFERSON, wish you a joyful Independence Day!
Adams and Jefferson, the only two Presidents to sign the Declaration of Independence, are among the first persons to greet visitors to our offices. They are here through their signatures on original U.S. patents that grace the walls of our offices.
On the 4th of July 1776, General Washington was in New York, defending Manhattan from the British.
First in war, first in peace, in 1790, President Washington would call on Congress to pass a Patent Act. Congress responded by passing “an act to promote the progress of the useful arts” through “patents for useful inventions,” as authorized in our Constitution in Article I, Section 8. This would set a strong foundation for the greatest economy the world has ever seen.
On this holiday marking the 243rd year of America’s independence, let us remember that this is the land of the free, the brave, and the inventive.
