The Lake District of Cumbria, England -- the Daffodils Man

"Now, look to the right, and provide it is not raining; you have the best view Windermere lake... "
An announcer was telling us on Bus 599 that I took from Grasmere to Windermere.
I had just buried Mr. William Wordsworth - the daffodils man - in Grasmere.
With Jane's burial in Winchester - I am doing pretty good with the literati.
But now I am stuck on page 29 of collected works of Mr. Wordsworth - it's a tome alright.
Welcome to the Lake District of England. It's funny that except for this place, the Brits hardly use district designation - it's counties, villages, Boroughs and parishes.
The Lake District aka the Rain District is west of those "back bone of Pennines" in Cumbria. Like the Americans about San Francisco, the Brits dream of coming here once in a life - often to be washed away.
I was lucky with hint of early fall weather - dry and warm. Thank heavens, because sunrises and sunsets here are "brilliant."
Windermere is England's biggest lake at an imposing 10 miles long by one mile wide. Deepest is about 150 ft. (Lake Baikal is 395 miles long and 49 miles wide and a mile deep). One similarity between the two - cold.
There are many other lakes nearby but Windermere is what the Brits come for.
It's spectacular and reminded me of Finger Lakes of Upstate New York.
The local gins are something.
And a G&T is not just gin and tonic - but throw in corns of black pepper, cucumber, bay leaves, mint and even red chillis for different gins. Amazing G&T's !
To paraphrase the great poet:
"And then my tongue fills with pleasures of gin and dances with the daffodils.."
See ya,
Neil
