Additional Highlights
Sudama, formerly Marabar
The Sudama Sculpture (formerly known as Marabar), has been relocated and is open to the public once again. Lee and Associates worked with artist Elyn Zimmerman on the landscape design as the 450,000 lbs. sculpture was moved almost four miles northwest from its original home at the National Geographic Headquarters in Dupont Circle to the American University Campus. This massive undertaking would not be possible without the advocacy of The Cultural Landscape Foundation, engineering services from EXP, and the vocal support of an enthusiastic public.
Swampoodle Terrace
A follow-up to the award winning Swampoodle Park, the adjacent Swampoodle Terrace received its own accolades this past year from the Associated General Contractors of Metropolitan Washington DC. The parks are the result of a public-private partnership headed by the NoMa Parks Foundation with additional collaboration from Forrester Construction and EXP Engineering. In response to the engagement and feedback from the surrounding community, the 8700 square foot lot on the northwest corner of 3rd and L Street, NE supports the need for a flexible place that accommodates people of all ages.
LAI in the Community
Featured above, LAI facilitated a workshop on Landscape Architecture principles in collaboration with the Black Landscape Architecture Network and ASLA Minneapolis Chapter for a Day of Service celebration at Juxtaposition Arts.
