Lahore – New Crack Down Against Driving Without License & Helmet

In a bid to enhance road safety, authorities have again unleashed a strict crackdown against motorists riding without license and helmets. Special checking is being carried out on all major roads in the city, including Mall Road, Canal Road, and Jail Road. In a recent tweet, Lahore Traffic Police informed us of the directive.

Additionally, this crackdown has been extended to supplementary roads like Kahna, Nishtar, Raiwind, and others. Violators will face penalties, including license checks for non-compliance.

Earlier in January this year, Punjab’s caretaker unleashed a cascade of strict crackdowns penalizing underage drivers and individuals without a valid driving license, particularly in the wake of a horrible accident that engulfed six people from the same family.

Concerning this move, the then Punjab government not only introduced services like online driving license renewal and online registration but also increased the license fee by 1566%.

Renew Driving License Online

People can renew their licenses through the online system. The candidates can renew their licenses for one, three, five, and ten years. Meanwhile, an international driving license will remain valid for three years.

The masses can download their local and international e-licenses easily, the announcement said, adding that these candidates would no longer have to take physical driving tests.

Online Registration

To facilitate the people, traffic police launched an online service for the people. The groundbreaking decision aims to simplify and streamline the licensing process, considering the surge in the number of people applying for licenses in the region.

License Fee Increased by 1566%

The provincial government took a surprising move and approved a substantial hike in driving license fees for both cars and motorcycles, soaring from Rs. 60 to whooping Rs. 1000.

The controversial decision ignited a storm of criticism on social media platforms. Many citizens expressed their dissatisfaction, arguing that the timing of the increase seems incongruous, given that more motorists are complying with traffic regulations.
