Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to share with you the news that I've joined a new business family - Colonial Oaks Senior Living - one of our nation's longest-standing and highly-respected senior living operators. Earlier this week, I finalized my purchase of the Colonial Oaks Senior Living management company and I will be serving as the company's Chairman & CEO. I could not feel more blessed and humbled to be trusted with this enormous responsibility.
I am thrilled to be joining such an established team of seasoned industry professionals who all share a love and passion for serving seniors. Our "family" currently operates 9 communities in three states, serving over 630 residents and employing more than 600 associates, many of whom have been with us for over 18 years.
Established in 1977 and headquartered in Houston, TX, Colonial Oaks Senior Living is a 39-year-old best-in-class owner / operator / developer whose executives have a combined 120+ years of experience in the senior living industry. As the company's new owner, I am personally committed to continuing the work that our founder Robert Caplan began 39 years ago as we grow the company over the next 40 years. Our entire team is excited about the future including our top executives, Pat Chadwick and Linda Bowser, both of whom have served this company over the past 16 years. I am truly grateful and honored to have such strong leaders to serve.
Any of you who know me well won't be surprised to hear that we are already busy growing the platform. In fact, just one day after the management company closing, yesterday we closed on our first two acquisitions. We have a few more communities under contract and we also have a few development projects in the pipeline. While our operating footprint currently includes Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, and soon California, we will be strategically expanding into more regions over time.
Needless to say, our family is growing...
As we grow, we will be on the lookout for exceptional individuals to join our team, including the industry's top clinical, operations, and marketing leaders who share our passion for serving seniors. We will also be on the lookout for the industry's top accountants, financial analysts, asset managers, and construction & development professionals.
Please message me directly if you are interested in joining our growing family or if you know someone we should consider. We are always excited to meet professionals who share our passion for serving seniors. Please stay tuned for more updates during this exciting time and thank you for reading this article.
Please also visit our website (updates coming soon), like us on Facebook, and please SHARE, LIKE, and COMMENT on this post to help us get the word out.
I must add a huge thank you to our colleagues (put more accurately, our "extended family") without whom, this transaction simply would not have occurred:
Many thanks to Kevin Kinigstein, Gail Migita, and their entire Cox, Castle & Nicholson team (extra thanks for their creativity and leadership on our closing day), to Matthew Whitlock, Aron Will, Adam Mincberg, Matt Kuronen, Mitchell Kiffe, Lisa Widmier, Deborah Street, Lexi Zager and their entire CBRE team, to Sean McNee, Rob Black, and their entire Cushman Wakefield team, to Marc Corman, Kim Fross, and their entire Jones, Ackerman & Corman team, to Brian Landrum, Trent Johnson, Scott Corbin, and their entire Harbert Management team, to Stefan Oh, Brooks Barton, Tyler Swade, and their entire AHI team, to Steve Schmidt, Shailini Nehra, Kathy Ryser, Mike Patterson, and their entire Freddie Mac team to Bill Martin and Heather Kendrick and their entire Kutak Rock team, and to all the countless others that rowed on the oars with us together to get this transaction and also our first two acquisitions across the finish line. Thank you all!
And especially endless thanks to God for getting me through this past year with strength, for guiding me in all of my tough decisions, for comforting me whenever I needed it, and for trusting me to lead this great company to serve His purpose. Amen.
Here's to another 40 years ahead, to a bright future devoted to loving and serving our residents, their families, and our team members.
Sincerely yours,
Carl Mittendorff
