Ladder+Squiggly=AmazingRaceModel

Has anybody watched the "Squiggly" Career Model in TED Talk? it's interesting, I would recommend :)

The best career path isn't always a straight line

Sarah Ellis and Helen Tupper

Conventional wisdom frames the ideal career path as a linear one -- a ladder to be climbed with a single-minded focus to get to the top. Career development consultants Sarah Ellis and Helen Tupper invite you to replace this outdated and limiting model with "squiggly" careers: dynamic,...

As I was watching the Ted Talk, I tried to see for myself which model did I encounter in my career path for the last 30years. (i am old but young at heart! hehe) .... and I must agree that I have been adopting the Squiggly Model, however, if you were to view my career history in my profile, you may realize that I actually did a combination of both the Ladder & Squiggly Career Model... I called my model an "AMAZINGRACE" Career Model.

What exactly have I tried and still remain happy, still learning, and still successful in my current career life?

Well, we all knew that many people have been using the conventional Ladder model for their careers since the beginning, and this video recommended the "Squiggly" model.?? Which made me feel that my career model has been a combination of both.

LADDER + SQUIGGLY = AMAZINGRACE Career Model

Imagine an orbuculum, if you look on the outside of the crystal, my career path?looked like a Squiggly model. However, at the core, it still has a Ladder model embedded in my path, which allowed my career to climb like anybody but in diverse industries environment. Although there were bound to have many Risks and Challenges.... those were Opportunities for me and they had inspired me more and helped me to grow and gained even more good working experience that I can apply to my diversified corporate roles and still be relevant to help in my entire career.

Because I see Risk and Challenges as good Opportunities to grow instead of danger and the only place I can get a lot of career excitement is to grab any given opportunity to be there before others, to contribute, and to Learn, Learned, and Learnt! :) Therefore every role that I have undertaken, I was always able to apply my past experience to climb from one industry to another to help the company to grow.

Below are my working experiences with multiple roles in multiple industries. :)

Manufacturing Industry, Engineering, R&D, Financial Consultant, Sales, Marketing, Event Manager, Team Lead, Regional Mid-Senior Management, Individual & Team Contributor, IT Tech Support, System Administrator, Education Industry, Partners Delivery, Key Account Manager, Vendor Management, Customer Support, PCB Designer, Multi-Vendor Manager, Senior Account Manager, Enterprise Business Manager, etc.

Most of the time, I realize that whenever I switch, I have become more knowledgeable, learn faster, and very adaptable team player compare to many people :)))))?

My career model is HIGHLY NOT recommended for many but those who survived in the AMAZINGRACE career model like me.... you won't regret and every stop is a new adventure... I felt like I have traveled the world in 30years for my careers (although all were located in SG) and my travel is just the beginning... ???????????? I have learned a lot from my "AMAZINGRACE" career development and if any company requires my diverse experience, do reach out to me... I am always open to good opportunities to help the company.

I normally hear from many recruiters/HRs during my interviews...

".... Wilson, you have a very impressive and diversified career development which attract us... " I was not surprised as most of my friends or colleagues were still using the conventional Ladder career model.

So if are you interested to know more about my AMAZINGRACE Career path? Do visit my LinkedIn Profile to check it out and click FOLLOW and CONNECT and SHARE if you find my experience is interesting and inspiring.

I hope to share more to inspire and to help many people in LinkedIn World. Drop me a comment to let me know if my article has reached and inspired you too. Cheers! :)

Let's stay safe and stay in touch! My wife used to say that I am like a "cockroach" in Chinese there is a saying... 蟑螂不叫蟑螂-叫小强... because a cockroach can still survive in the darkest and harsh environment too. :)

Warmest regards,

Wilson Low from SG.
