Lack Sleep? - I am a 24 Hour Business Owner
According to the International Labour Organization more than 80% of men and 60% of women work more than 40 hours a week. That’s just for making a living but with schedules that hectic, you’re hardly living at all.
I am a 24 hour business owner. I know something about the loss of sleep and compounded fatigue. I work in a business that helps my clients in the States and Australia among other customers achieve their business goals through the remote employees I provide here in the Philippines.
If you’re the parent of a toddler who often wakes you up for something in the middle of the night, then that can make things worse if you have to get up early in the morning to set up meetings with your client or weekly sessions with your in-house staff.
Long commutes, parental responsibilities and your mental health
If you have to commute for long hours, then that just makes things worse. Sure you generally have creative control but you might not be able to think straight.
It can be pretty unwieldy when you have to feed your toddler plus drive 7 kilometers to make it to your workspace.
The thing is a lot of us business people, employees, teachers and even therapists tend to think that there’s something wrong with us emotionally if we can’t get any sleep.
I can assure you, if you’re having any of those problems right now, seek professional help.
Sometimes though, it is a matter of chemistry and balance
For instance I once found out my magnesium and potassium levels were extremely low at one point, and once I got them checked and restored, I got better rest. Still, magnesium is just one side of the equation, if you’re endlessly swamped with multiple chores you’re going to have to address that too.
More on those later, but for now, let’s talk about the different kinds of sleepers and see which of them fits your lifestyle:
Early risers - These are people who wake up early in the morning, are fired up at 7: 00 am and horses can’t stop you after you’ve had your breakfast and shower. Early risers tend to thrive during the day time and consequently, they sleep really early.
Late sleepers - Late sleepers are like wolves. They tend to be able to sleep at 1: 00 am and get up at 10: 00 in the morning. Obviously they’re fit for mid shift jobs and schedules. If you have a flexible schedule at work and this is comfortable enough, then stick with this schedule.
Night owls - Night owls are those who work at night and can sleep comfortably during the day. This is self explanatory. Night owls exist among entrepreneurs and employees. They simply thrive at night and if the kinds of industries they’re on call for those work hours, then they can’t help but succeed.
See if any of the above fits you. Are you an early riser, a late sleeper? Or a night owl?
Again, if you’re a parent like me, try balancing your work life and family life. If you’re a business person and you just can’t sleep? Consider your magnesium and potassium. I cannot reiterate this enough, get yourself checked if you think it’s because your body has a chemical imbalance.
After you’ve tried all that though and you still find yourself fatigued, have you considered augmenting your staffing capabilities? There is a way to delegate if you find the right way to do it but still keep creative control. If you have any questions about this or managing your time? Drop me a line, or send me a message in the comments section.
I’d love to hear from you.
