THE LESSON

Greetings from Troy,

A lack of patience always changes our outcomes.

Success is often disguised as hard work, dressed in coveralls.

Commit long term and you'll reap the rewards.

Picture a gap between two peaks. Your current idea is a bridge that needs building. That bridge, will get you to the other side.

Then, you switch directions. You go back, you start building another bridge...

....(Another new idea)

And another bridge...

Now you're left with a bunch of half built bridges, and you're barely over the gap.

When you skip steps (acquiring skills) and missing the lessons along the way that allow you to retain skills and get momentum.

The longer you stay with the mission at hand, the closer the bridge gets to the other side. You put the blinders on. You move forward.

"I'm going to build this, until I get there."

The reason you quit? You don't have the skills, or the insights to propel us past the initial hurdles. The beginning is always exciting, something new, something shiny...

...But then, you enter the chasm and you're right smack dab in the middle between somewhere, and no-mans land.

At that point?

It's easier to go back, choose hard instead.

A few editions back we discussed "Why people steal, and borrow idea's..."

However, the dark side of copying is we're not understanding the foundations of where someone came from. If you copy someones "successful" in this moment, you're copying this exact moment.

You're not going back to the early stages, and copying the steps they went through to arrive where they are at today.

Everyone's journey is unique. There is always another chasm for you to cross, another challenge to deal with and another skill to understand. But the most important thing, is building that first bridge to get across to the other side.

Whatever that is for you, don't compromise.

THE MISSION

487,268 people have been laid off between 2022-2024 according to the data from layoffs.fyi - it has been a tumultuous past couple years.

This was a motivating factor to launch Internal Success and put together packages for experts that want to do more consulting work, there are a TON of skilled folks in the market that simply just don't know how to package, price and position their work and want to work online.

Not long ago I gave a consultant-to-be a proposal formula in a private group we're in, and she brought in two deals with it totalling 6-figures in revenue ($102k) for just giving advice and guidance. It replaced her salary, and she's going full time.

Pssst...grab the proposal template here:

THE STUDY

This is an interesting study, and the summary is there is a specific "Window of Tolerance" where you best learn and have optimal performance.

Quoted: This concept was developed by Dan Siegel, MD, and refers to the ideal emotional zone that a person needs for optimal functioning.

If you’re within your optimal tolerance zone, you feel grounded and can manage your emotions effectively.

According to a 2011 research review, your window of tolerance is a balance between hyperarousal and hypoarousal.

Here’s the difference between the two:

  • Hyperarousal. In this state, you may notice heightened agitation, anxiety, or anger. You may also feel overwhelmed.
  • Hypoarousal. Moving into this state may result in feelings of numbness, disassociation, or exhaustion. You may also experience feelings of depression or lack energy.

THE HOMEWORK

This one is interesting, and I think you'll like it.

1. For the longest time, I was pretty adverse to setting "lofty" goals - my thinking was if you don't hit the goal you damage your self-confidence, and when your confidence takes a hit, you lose momentum.

So then, I'd set more "reasonable" goals, more often. However, a mentor helped me re-frame something around this.

a) Set a lofty goal, something pretty outrageous. Lose 40lbs, make a big whack of cashola...whatever you want, who cares set something.

b) Within a few moments of setting that goal, observe what comes up and write down all the reasons why you CAN NOT achieve that big lofty goal.

c) The reasons that you CAN NOT achieve it, can just be shifted into a skill you need to learn.

Find someone that can teach you.

- Lose 40lbs? Hire a trainer, maybe a dietician. Learn about calories, get blood work. Find a gym. Find classes.

- Big whack of cashola? Need more clients. Learn advertising or copywriting, or learn how to publish content. Take a media course. Hire a someone to teach you.

That's the newsletter, thanks for reading.

On your side, Troy Assoignon

I tend to think if we learn a new skill and achieve 70-85% of it, we’ll can become the top 15 percentile. Most give up because they want quick returns and walk back after completing only 10% of the bridge :)

This is very true Troy Assoignon. There are some personality types who are much better with disciple and tenacity. Other people are better with ideas. We need both to get where we are going.
