A lack of motivation week

Working from home is pretty new to almost all of us and it does take some getting used to. I find that the hardest for me is the ‘staying motivated’ part. This week has been a good week, I’ve been flying through work. Last week however, that was a different story. I wrote this blog last week in the middle of my frustrations and wondered: does everyone else feel this way too?
When in the office, it was so much easier. If you’re having a bad day/week or things go wrong it’s easy to get motivation from those around you. The constant chit chat to take your mind off things. The banter where afterwards you even forget about the crappy week you’re having and can often put you back on track. It’s difficult to get that when working from home. Motivation is key in any role but especially in a sales-focused role such as recruitment. Some days you just need a good kick and usually the best place to get that is from your colleagues – whether it’s someone giving you advice, or bouncing ideas off each other - the office environment is definitely a good place to get motivation going and keep it going.
For me, I’ve been locking down more as the Covid numbers are rising as I’m in the high-risk group. That means not only am I not in the office with my colleagues, but also means limiting my social interactions even further with my friends. This eventually becomes exhausting. I would be a very social, outgoing person, who would be used to meeting friends often. This was always my way of getting my energy. Whether it was looking forward to meeting friends at the weekend or having a great laugh with someone over dinner mid-week. This was always the best way to keep my energy levels high and stay motivated. This high energy would then translate over to work and keep me on track during the week. So, with now not being in the office and not having the chance to meet friends, it is often hard for me to keep motivated at work.
I wrote this blog to try get some enthusiasm back and get my frustrations out before the end of the week. Did it work? Well not really. It’s definitely hard to shake off a lack of energy in a matter of a few hours or a day. I included a list of ‘what you can do to get motivated’ lines. But really this is a lot of times like a cheesy meme, and doesn’t do much in the short term to help.
So I just made sure to have a nice weekend. I went for a walk with my two little nieces, I had a video chat with my two best friends, and I did lots of relaxing. This might also sound like another quote from Facebook but it worked. I came back to work on Monday refreshed, parked last week and started new this week and to be honest, it has been going so much better.
Anyway, so that was my 'lack of motivation week'. I'd love to hear about yours or what you do to get out of that slump?

4 年I can definitely relate Emma! It can be hard to stay motivated particularly when a lot of our go to remedies are no longer available:) Spending time with family and particularly kids can help you gain a sense of perspective for sure
