Is Lack of Feedback Keeping You From The C-Suite?
Dr. Aimée V. Sanchez, PhD- Executive Coach
Neuropsychologist | Executive Life Coach | Leadership strategist—I use the ?? power of ??neuroscience to help c-suite women & executives elevate influence- maximize impact & exceed performance, life & business goals
Women continue to be underrepresented in leadership roles throughout the Executive suite, and this lack of representation impacts women’s ability to gain access to top opportunities.
Do you lack the feedback you need to advance in your career? You are not alone. I work with women leaders daily who are frustrated by a lack of constructive feedback.
Research indicates that women on average receive less feedback than men as they progress through the executive ranks.
It’s time for you to take your future into your own hands – and you can do that by getting the feedback that will advance your career and finally allow you to lead from the C-Suite.
One way we bridge the gap between no feedback and vague feedback is with the use of 360-degree evaluations.?
What is 360-degree feedback?
360-degree feedback is a way to collect and share feedback from people directly involved in your work. This includes customers, employees, peers, and your boss.?
It is a way to improve your overall performance, learn how to deliver better, and be more effective in your interactions with other people. It also offers you ways to improve specific skills and foster growth.
How do you give 360-degree feedback?
You can give 360-degree feedback in person, via email, or via a web portal. Referencing the feedback you receive with a card or comment is a great way to further highlight its importance to you.?
Asking people what they like about their performance can be a good way to start the conversation. But before you dive in, make sure you have a clear idea of what you want to discuss.?
The type of feedback that you provide will have the most impact on the person receiving it.
These evaluations are so important.?
Let me tell you why.
I had a recent consult with a Department Head who had suffered some serious career setbacks and she believed that she could go it alone to uplevel to her next role without expert support.?
Here’s the reality of how things were…
She had received feedback from her superiors that they and her team perceived her as:
? Not a team player
? Lacking executive presence

? Under skilled, and ill-matched for her current role
If you can imagine, this was the last thing that she wanted to hear.?
I had to be honest and could tell she didn’t like the answer. To reach her goals, she needed to address the blind spots that were impacting her work interactions so that she could change the narrative.
You can’t change what you don’t admit.
I help my clients make the shift to see that feedback is freeing.
What are the three critical things you need to make the leap to the C-Suite??
? The first is to get honest feedback from a trusted source. This can help you identify your strengths and areas for improvement.?
? The second is to understand what the feedback means to you as an individual. This is the most important step of all.?
? Finally, think about how you can use this feedback to position yourself better for your next career goal. This can be as simple as using the information to identify your core strengths and pinpointing the gaps that are holding you back.
Your career is a journey of exploration, learning, and growth. On this journey, you will have many opportunities to improve yourself and the skill set required for your next role.?
It's important to have a plan for how you will use feedback that you receive along the way to position yourself better for your next career goal.
To start on the right foot, set a goal and break it down into actionable steps.?
The better you are able to use your 360 feedback, the more value it will have for you as a candidate for a next-level position.?
It's important to know that negative feedback is just as important as positive feedback.
When you take the time to understand what you need to do to improve your life and career, you will be better positioned to move forward and reach your potential.
My goal is to empower women leaders to reclaim their true power and take the next step toward executive success.?
By sharing client stories and insights, I hope to help you break through your career-limiting beliefs and actions so that you can lead with authenticity, power, and excellence.
