Getting to know: Lace Johnson

  1. Tell us a bit about your role and what a “typical” day looks like

A day in my role looks like a very sophisticated balancing act. I pivot between meetings, client research, outreach, conducting demos where I walk clients through the capabilities of the Flowcode technology suite and many other tasks. No two days are ever identical. Everyday I meet and interact with a wide variety of people and learn more ways that Flowcode is making connections more efficient across the globe.

2. Tell us a little about yourself and how it played a part in your role now

At my core I’m a problem solver and a connector. I like to connect people to the right products that will provide long lasting solutions for whatever pain point they encounter. Being a problem solver is actually what led me to this role. I stumbled on an article during the pandemic that spoke about the very low percentages of Black Women in Tech. Technology is the future, so seeing that data made me want to help do my part in shifting the numbers. Flowcode specifically was of interest to me because of the product. Again, at my core I am a connector, and this technology is the most efficient way to connect offline to online and solve pain points for every business vertical on the planet. It’s actually poetic that things aligned this way.

3. What is the most challenging part of your job and how do you manage with challenges

At my core I thrive when I am able to create, and my current role does not necessarily call for an excessive amount of creative projects. I manage by staying focused on the end goal and keeping my eye on the countless positives: we have a phenomenal team that believes in the same goals, I get to connect with so many creators from various backgrounds, and I am part of a company that is reshaping the way people connect and measure engagements. Adding those factors up keeps me focused.

4. What is your biggest career-related win? What is your biggest loss?

Shifting my perception. As I reflect on my younger days I am sure that my biggest loss was not truly understanding my worth. Acknowledging that is how I can confidently say that my biggest win is knowing the value that I bring to the table. When you know your worth it unlocks a new level of confidence that spills over into everything you do both professionally and personally.

5. What advice would you give to someone in your field or looking to pursue a career in your field?

First I'd say be your authentic self. If you cannot do that, you will never feel fulfilled and your career growth will be stunted. Second, be a sponge to soak up as much knowledge as you can from everywhere. Be aware that you have something of value to offer and continue to add value by constantly learning more about your field.

6. Where do you see yourself in 5+ years

In 5 years I see myself continuing to add value to every room that I enter into. It does not matter what the role is, from an entry level employee to the CEO of a company I see myself making an impact by being authentic and empowering everyone around me to stop holding back and tap into their full potential. I was told once that FEAR= false expectations appearing real. For the next 5 years and every year after I will continue to encourage and inspire women and men from all walks of life to push themselves to see the beauty on the other side of fear.
