Labyrinthitis

So I was diagnosed yesterday with Labyrinthitis, a viral infection of the inner ear. I have been twirling around with sudden vertigo for a number of days now and apart from the giddy, I’ve had two champagnes’ feeling, it’s been relatively amusing but painless. It came, however, on a day when I felt a little overwhelmed with so many ideas, thoughts and impulses running through my mind.

What was more subtly amusing to me on reflection was the coincidence that I have been listening to Joseph Campbells’ The Hero with a Thousand Faces. The book begins with the story of Theseus being called into the Labyrinth only to face the Minotaur, the great call to adventure of the Hero’s Journey.

I take my diagnosis as a pure act of the universe waving a big brightly coloured flag at me. Increasingly it reinforces for me the need to embrace synchronicity in my life. To trust what it has in store and forge ways to fulfil my purpose, my why. To not question or fight my momentum, but to let it flow it will all become clear on the journey.

I am having conversation after conversation with people who feel their life is on an unstable (but not threatening) platform, that sense of vertigo, that sense of a shift and movement occurring in their lives. The idea there is something so much more meant for them.

To begin your heroes (or heroines) journey it is essential to step forth and accept to the call to adventure. To say yes to the ‘meaningful coincidences even if they occur with no causal relationship yet seem to be meaningfully related*’.

What coincidences have you been finding in your life? Are messages appearing to you in random yet related ways? Have you begun your Hero’s Journey? Have you accepted your call to adventure?

I have. And it is magnificent.

*as Jung defined it in his paper Synchronicity – An Acausal Connecting Principle

Thank you for sharing your connection with the Hero. I am always mindful of this journey and that the cave we fear to enter holds the treasure that we seek.

My goodness Katy. The Hero with a Thousand Faces (and derivatives thereof) has appeared in my life a lot over the last few months. Nice work. I will watch out for more musings from you! :) Good luck with labyrinthitis by the way. That's been in my family too and went quickly so hopefully will be all good.
