??Science News that Took off in February

???? Fecal Samples Help Doctors Predict Treatment Susceptibility

An exciting new study published in Nature Biomedical Engineering answers some questions relating to patient responsiveness to ICI by using an unexpected patent sample-poop! That's correct, a patented poop, where oftentimes patent translation?can be used to understand the complexities of patents and how they function. Notable research has found evidence that the gastrointestinal microbiome, the conglomerate of microorganisms and viruses that live in the digestive tract, can impact ICIs.? Based on this knowledge, a team of researchers constructed a novel model system allowing them to study interactions between ICIs and the microbiome.? The researchers call this technique “gut-on-a-chip”.?

???? Human Brains Found to Carry High Levels of Microplastics

Researchers have now found that microplastics and nanoplastics seem to build up in the human brain at levels that are even higher than those found in the kidneys and liver. The kidneys and liver help remove toxins from the body, but the brain is a crucial organ that is protected by the blood-brain barrier. Yet, plastics seem to accumulate there. This study also showed that in an assessment of post-mortem brains, there were higher levels of microplastics and nanoplastics in brains from 2024 compared to brains from 2016. The findings have been reported in Nature Medicine.

???? Exosomes in skincare

The regulatory landscape surrounding exosomes in cosmetics is complex due to their biological origin and therapeutic-like properties. Unlike traditional skincare ingredients, exosomes blur the distinction between cosmetics and biologics, raising concerns regarding their classification, safety assessments, and approval processes. The ethical implications of human-derived exosomes, especially those sourced from embryonic or fetal tissues, necessitate transparency to ensure public acceptance and compliance with ethical standards.?

  • Microsite/Registration Page
  • Lobby/Entry Point
  • Exhibit Hall or Product Showroom or Virtual Lab
  • Auditorium (Webinars)
  • Breakout Room (video chat meetings) or Resource Center
  • Networking Lounge
  • Help Desk
  • Other spaces available (Poster Hall)

???? Half-Day Virtual Symposium

The Labroots Half-Day Symposium offers a focused virtual experience that is more substantial than a few webinars but not as extensive as a full event. This smaller, targeted event spans only a morning, afternoon, or evening. It includes all the benefits of a Scheduled Virtual Event, with a complete event build-out, but features a more concise agenda.
