Labour Market Impact Assessment Application Processing Times

Labour Market Impact Assessment Application Processing Times

Processing Times:

The number of applications received by the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program can affect how long it takes to process Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications.

The table below shows the average processing time by stream, which is updated monthly. Please consider these times as you plan for your job goals.

Average time to finish for November 2024

When the application processing period begins

Application processing starts right after you submit a completed LMIA application using LMIA Online,

An application is considered complete when:

·?????? All necessary paperwork for the stream you're applying for has been submitted, the employer has signed it, and you've paid the processing fee, if any.

·?????? Applications that are not complete will not be processed, and the processing fee will not be applied.

For jobs in Quebec that require more than 30 days of continuous work

When an application is deemed complete,

·?????? It is simultaneously submitted (in French only) to the Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Intégration (MIFI) and Service Canada in Quebec.

·?????? The application includes the names of the TFWs and is submitted in the format specified by the provincial administration.

When the time allotted for processing your application ends:

You are done with the application process when Service Canada sends you a decision letter. You will either receive good or bad news about your LMIA. If your LMIA is positive, you should provide the TFWs with a copy of the decision letter so that they can apply for a work permit.
