Labor Recipes: The Ice Breaker.
Johnny Walker
My time being a blue-collar family member and worker has taught me to work with less and expect more. I will always strive for excellence and encourage everyone’s inner greatness.
It is terrifying to stand out when we are in a crowd of strangers. Many of us want to curl up into a ball in the farthest corner of the room, so you may never be found. Suppose everyone does that; the next person that comes in the room can easily slip on some unknown while everyone is curled up in a ball, too shy to speak.?Sometimes we need to step out of that box and comfort zone so others can be heard.?Breaking the ice does not have to be some brilliant idea or a Shakespearean sonnet. It just has to be a little bravery that shows everybody it's OK to speak.
If you consider it the old commercial for the Crash Test Dummies, it may be easier to break the ice. It's the Crash Test Dummies' job to test the safety features; it can be your job to break the ice. Each time you break the ice, it sets the room for interaction instead of silence. If you do it often enough, people will come to you as a leader, and you will eventually become more comfortable in public situations. The people you are breaking the ice with are people you need to interact with daily. So why wouldn't you want to set the tone and make everyone feel comfortable, including yourself? Sometimes we spend more time at work than we do at home. So start making your icebreaking welcome mat so everyone can benefit from the easy conversation and thought exchanges at the workplace.
Well, that's my spiel for today.
