El Postre??

Finally, we’ll leave you with a story from El País about how a seemingly ordinary white hat has prompted a public debate in Colombia about peace, heritage, and culture.

During an event, Colombian President Gustavo Petro declared a hat that once belonged to M-19 guerrilla leader Carlos Pizarro as a “symbol of peace.” Pizarro signed a peace accord with the government and was then assassinated in 1990 when he was a presidential candidate.

“The declaration opened several fronts of debate: whether or not it is a symbol of peace, [and] whether the path the Ministry of Culture used to recognize it as heritage without deliberation was appropriate,” the El País article states. “All with an extra detail: there is not just one Pizarro hat, but at least two.”
