LA DALLMAN awarded the 2019 AIA WI Honor Award
The 2019 American Institute of Architects Wisconsin Honor Award recognizes LA DALLMAN, the practice of Grace La and James Dallman for their project, the Levatich House, also known as the Flat Top House. The project is one of three projects to receive an Honor Award for overall architectural design excellence, and the only single family home to be so recognized. In his acceptance speech for the award, James Dallman articulated, “The house curates the relationship between the social structure of the family and the found condition of site-- operating as a field condition of indeterminate boundaries, overlapping thresholds and interdependent spatial figures. The client embraced the formation of a meandering domestic terrain and an intimate relationship with the surrounding topography, in such a way that the house behaves as much like a constructed landscape as a building.”
Commenting on LA DALLMAN’s design of the residence, the jury stated “the Flat Top House is singularly elegant in its material and spatial response to the integration of program and site.” A distinguished jury of architects selected the award-winning projects. The 2019 AIA Wisconsin Design Awards were announced and presented at a special awards luncheon on May 8, 2019 at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison, WI. The annual Design Awards program represents the highest recognition given for excellence in architectural design by the state’s professional society of architects.
