LA County Sheriff James McDonnell at the LA Chapter meeting of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers

On Monday, 16 November, the Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers was honored to have Los Angeles County Sheriff James McDonnell has our guest speaker.

Sheriff McDonnell spoke eloquently on the broad scope of serving as Chief of the geographically largest police agency in America.  He leads a force numbering in the range of 16,000 personnel.  He serves a department that manages police services in approximately 80 city/municipalities and a populace numbering in the millions.

Among the subject covered in his talk was the service demands of his department, the challenges of managing the jails, with over crowding, mental health issues, gangs, a lack of sufficient funding and the tremendous size of his Sheriffs coverage area.

He also touched on the subject of Gang crime, Narcotics, Terrorism and Homeland Security, juvenile crime, jail over-crowding, and the growing issue of Human Trafficking.

The Los County Sheriffs Office (LASO) has begun a new push to address the human trafficking problem from a ground up approach, working with local partner law enforcement agencies, the courts and legal system and our community support agencies.

There was so much more in the hour long presentation, too much for this posting!

From all of the members of the LA AFIO,

Thank You very much Sheriff Mc Donnell
