Kwibuka is a special day for millions of Rwandans, dedicated to remembering the victims of the Rwandan Genocide and honoring the nation's resilience. With comeanddo as the event's executive producers, we contributed to Kwibuka's 30th anniversary with a stunning LED installation at BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.
The project involved controlling 160.000 pixels using 39 LED Ethernet Controller 3 (LEC3) devices and over 300 SPI Lamps. The content was generated by SMODE software (from SmodeTech ) and projected onto the LED installation using the screen grabing function of our LSS 3 software.
The event's centerpiece was a massive 'Tree of Life', designed and programmed by Enjoy Lights, symbolically decorated to reflect the memorial theme. The tree's branches represented the protection that families lacked during the Genocide, now symbolizing unity and support among Rwandans. The upright trunk represented the aspirations of the younger generation, while the roots illustrated the collective memory of the past, anchoring and inspiring Rwandans to build a brighter future.
The team of professionals from around the world produced a spectacular and emotional evening for thousands of attendees, including Heads of State, members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and Rwandan citizens. We fitted nearly 2 kilometers of custom LED tubes onto four large circular trusses, creating a trunk and roots that were both visually stunning and symbolically significant.
The event showcased the power of collaboration, innovation, and the unbreakable spirit of the Rwandan people. We are incredibly proud to have been a part of this project and look forward to future opportunities to provide our technology for meaningful and impactful installations.
