Kuwait’s first multilateral intelligent completion.
Overview
A sandstone reservoir in Kuwait contained stacked channel sand bodies with very high horizontal and vertical permeability associated with an active underlying aquifer. The presence of fault networks connected to the aquifer, along with the high oil viscosity and oil wet reservoir characteristics, can often result in a non-uniform inflow profile and premature water breakthrough in existing wells, significantly impacting the reservoir performance. The location of this reservoir not only posed drilling challenges for the operator, but it also limited where the wells could be placed to effectively deplete the reservoir
