Singer Kurt Darren's PR disaster - he puts the phone down live on radio during an interview while being asked a tough question.
So, Kurt Darren sang the national anthem at the FNB Varsity Cup and he forgot a few of the words. A storm erupted on Social Media saying the singer butchered the national anthem.
Then, on 702 Talk Radio this morning, before the presenter could ask him the first question, he said he woke up to a storm and don't know what the fuss is about. He messed up one or two lines , he admits. So when the presenter asked him why he doesn't know the lines, Kurt said "Have a lekke day" and put the phone down.
BAD MOVE!
First thing, Kurt was not prepared by his PR team. He was not prepared what the likely questions will be and advised on which route to take.
The advice we usually give clients is, if its not going to interfere with a legal case, admit, apologise and get on it. He also sounded insincere during the interview, as if to say I don't really care what you think if I mess up the National Anthem. Wrong. People do care and are very proud of our heritage. Our Anthem represents our collective beliefs as a nation and signifies how far we have come as a people.
Artists do make mistakes on stage because they are absolutely human. But as a artist, rather call an expert who knows and understands publicity in stead of wanting to do it all by yourself. And if you do have one, make sure he or she is bloody good at what they do.

5 年Such arrogance on his part. ?Kurt Darren deserves the slack he is getting. ?Golden rule of PR and social media marketing: ?"If you put your head in the sand, you ass becomes a target."?
