Kubecon 2018

The cloud game is changing, and for the better. Thank you Kubernetes and the Cloud Native Foundation. The cloud is becoming less of a one horse game with all three of the big public cloud providers pushing their own Kubernetes platforms.

Managing Director Andrew Boag and Head of Operations Alex Lawn made the treck to Copenhagen last week to attend the Kubecon 2018. Having moved many of our workloads onto a docker-based container architecture, we have been watching the progress of Kubernetes closely.

Kubecon is one of a large suite of events run by the Cloud Native Foundation. And this event calendar is disrupting the benchmark for what is on offer for cloud-centric technology conferences. Definitely not just another vendor conference. Thank you!

With over 3000 attendees and all the big-name players as both exhibitors and presenters, the European Kubecon 2018 gets a big tick. Interesting and varied exhibitors and presentations across the three days, all tied to the best and most useful practices of cloud-based solutions and the open source tools that drive them.

Each day’s keynotes were engaging and topical, with a healthy dose of entertainment thrown in for good measure.

There were presentations covering a wide array of Kubernetes topics, as well as deep dives into new container strategies. The how-to sessions and case studies were informative and energising. Great to see what some of our peers are getting up to.

The conference market floor brought back memories of IT events from yesteryear where there are a large array of products on offer. Everything from security solutions, management and monitoring tool sets, storage products, custom database solutions, CI/CD and analytics dashboards and all sorts of other stuff.

Also great to see the amount of independent cloud consultancies that have a managed Kubernetes service or consultancy offering on the market. It seems that the promise of a truly cloud-agnostic application architecture might just finally be here.

The now looks good for Kubernetes and the future looks even brighter.
