Kristallnacht (Father's Day Reflection)

Kristallnacht (Father's Day Reflection)

Unplugged. A blog at the traffic circle of professional, personal,
technical and healthcare. Opinions my own.

Nazi leaders unleashed a series of programs against the Jews in Germany and occupied territories. This event came to be called Kristallnacht (The Night of Broken Glass) because of the shattered glass that littered the streets after the vandalism and destruction of Jewish owned businesses, synagogues and homes. Kristallnacht (1938) signaled a turning point in the systematic purge of all Jews in Europe. My Dad Herbert crawled from the remaining glass, ash and later, gas.

I honor my Dad each Father’s Day and celebrate his life. I learned much as a man and leader observing him and how he handled the most horrific of circumstances in a concentration camp. It is best to hear Herbert’s story from his own voice from a TEDx a few years back. It is a triumphant testimony to the redemptive power of G-d and the tenaciousness of man.

From my father, I learned to choose good over evil. I learned to love over hate. I learned to choose hope over despair. It comes down to choice. Thank you Dad for your powerful testimony. While many give up on good, love and hope, your decision to move forward against all odds enabled life and opportunity for many. Seven Children. 20 Grand Children, 9 Great Grand Children and counting! This is just the beginning. Happy Father's Day!!!!
