I’m sending The Nussle Report early this week and keeping it short, as I’m sure many of you are already looking forward to time with loved ones. During this season of gratitude, I want you to know I’m thankful for everything you do on behalf of your members. All across America there are families gathering in homes they wouldn’t have been able to purchase without a credit union, or enjoying a turkey dinner they can now afford because a credit union approved the auto loan that helped them buy the car they needed to secure a better job. You make a measurable difference in people’s lives every day. Thank you!

The vote for the next BCFP director set for next week

The Senate will likely vote on Kathy Kraninger’s nomination to lead the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection next week. We look forward to working with Kraninger to promote common-sense regulations. But, we continue to believe a bipartisan commission is the best option to lead the regulatory agency and avoid the partisan gamesmanship and uncertainty that have been hallmarks of its single-director structure.

Extending expired tax cuts, fixing excise tax disparity our focus for rest of 2018

As the 115th Congress comes to a close, we’ll urge lawmakers to: extend two mortgage-related tax cuts that benefit homeowners, fix a major parity problem between existing for-profit and not-for-profit employee contracts, and delay the new Unrelated Business Income Tax until clearer rules are finalized.

Shout out to Jackson County Teachers Credit Union

This small credit union in Marianna, Fla., with a staff of eight women, stayed open despite the 120 mph winds of Hurricane Michael leaving behind billions of dollars in damages. President/CEO Valena Alexander said their members told them they couldn’t believe Jackson County Teachers was one of the only financial institutions open, given its small stature. She said she told them, “It is amazing what eight hard-headed country girls can get accomplished.” Their story will put a smile on your face.
