Additionally, we'll delve into why cellular connectivity is crucial for eVTOL flights. Get ready for an informative deep dive into these cutting-edge technologies, and scroll down!

KPN`s new product, Drone Connect to minimize operations risks

KPN drone service

During Amsterdam Drone Week, KPN, the partner of AirborneRF, the Dutch telecommunications company, introduced a new data service for drone operators called KPN Drone Connect. This service offers several innovative features tailored for drone operations, such as enhanced connectivity control, efficient data exchange, and 3D mobile coverage maps to ensure priority during network congestion. KPN also introduced a new feature that provides drone operators with data on population density along planned flight paths to help minimize operational risks. This innovation is particularly crucial for safely managing drone flights over populated areas and aligns with the need for detailed risk assessments required by aviation regulations.

Moreover, KPN has launched a 5G network checker tool, specifically designed to assist drone operators in planning Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flights by selecting the best and most stable routes beforehand. This tool aims to enhance the safety and reliability of drone operations, supporting the critical communication link between drones and their remote controllers, especially in complex flight scenarios.

Vodafone`s solution, DroNET, is in action for powerline inspection in Germany

DroNet is used for powerline inspection

According to most studies, power line inspections with drones are much more cost-friendly because problems can be identified quicker, safer, and more flexibly than traditional methods. However, a number of factors need to be taken into account to ensure that such unmanned flights run smoothly and can be carried out properly.

This is exactly where a good digital platform for dynamic data collection and decision-making before and during the flight is crucial!

To test such missions, Westnetz GmbH, Unmanned Helicopters group of companies, FlyNex, and Vodafone Uplift recently conducted test flights for automated inspection of power lines. In addition to the high-performance helicopter from Unmanned Helicopters, the platform from FlyNex and DroNet, as well as network slicing in Vodafone's high-performancehashtag 5G networks were used.

Congratulations to the entire team, especially our partner Vodafone UPLIFT for the demonstration!
