Explain KPIs first, the value for the team member, the team and the organization. Don't drop a KPI on someone. I suggest developing a fluid KPI process where the varied strengths and weaknesses of each team member are team balanced. Setting a high sales target is easy for the sales pro but only the up and comer will be challenged. So, set a different KPI for the pro such as in addition to new sales they must have sales from old customers, or targets and incentives to focus on a specific revenue stream. Take advantage of individuals strengths so everyone on the team is challenged and the team holistically grows holistically.
