KPI. Key Performance Indicator. This is a data point that companies can use to gain insight on their effectiveness, right? Maybe.?But what if leaders were focused a little more on how their own behaviors influenced their people?? Like KPEs? Keeping. People. Excited.?Here’s how a leader KEEPS their PEOPLE EXCITED for the work.?
KEEP their people EDUCATED ???? We live in the knowledge economy. Information is a high value commodity. Knowledge empowers teams to do great work with the proper perspective. Educate your team about everything and anything related to the work.?Maya Angelou once said, 'Do the best you can. And when you know a little better, do a little better.' Let's help out people do a little better by helping them know a little more.
KEEP their people ENGAGED ?? ?????? Leaders need to convince people that their work matters. I used to tell my basketball teams in the midst of boring drills, 'the small work matters when you have a BIG VISION!' Call out to your team the specific way their small work is making a BIG difference.

KEEP their people ENGROSSED ?????? To engross is to have one’s full attention absorbed. Here are 2 ways to accomplish: 1) Share what you are learning about the work 2) Ask your team what they are learning about their work. A learning mind is an engrossed mind. Help people become engrossed by demonstrating how engrossed you are in the work.?
KEEP their people ENCOURAGED ?? ???????? Encourage is defined as, ‘to give courage to another’. Kevin Mouton, state championship basketball coach at Second Baptist School mantra is 'have the courage to encourage!' Here’s how: 1) Tell stories about the impact of their work. Inspirational stories inspire us to do better. 2) Clarify goals and roles, and compliment when these are met. Clarity creates the confidence to act courageously 3) Console team members when it’s all going wrong. The courage to get up and keep going is developed by those that encourage us when we are down. Be the leader your team wants around when it is all going wrong and have the courage to encourage them.
KPIs matter. KPEs might matter a little more ?? Lead on, friends!
