Korea Cosmetic Association establishes ‘Experts on Cosmetics Safety Committee’ and ‘Sustainability Committee’

The Korean Cosmetic Association (Chairman Suh Kyung-bae) established the 'Expert Committee for Safety (tentative name)' to prepare for the introduction of a global safety management system to better prepare its members. It also established ?'Sustainability Committee (tentative name)' to further advance sustainable cosmetics industry.
The Korean Cosmetic Association made this announcement at its 75th general meeting held at the Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong on February 20. The 'Expert Committee for Safety (tentative name)', will oversee reviewing cosmetics safety evaluation, improving industry understanding of domestic and international safety evaluation systems, and develop ways to foster safety evaluation experts. The committees will prepare industry guide for the introduction of a global safety management system and hold seminars regarding the changing global cosmetics safety evaluation systems.
For eco-friendly sustainable management, the ‘Sustainability Committee (tentative name)’ will feed global information through publishing ESG trend reports and hold seminars for the cosmetic industry.
In order to strengthen consumer communication, the committees will produce and distribute infographics based on scientific communication of cosmetics information and jointly hold a ‘Small and Medium Business Capacity Building Seminar’ with the Korea Consumer Agency.
It also provides licensing consultations to help with overseas expansion, provide webinars, train small and medium-sized businesses to build export capacity, help with the cosmetics-related electronic certificate issuance system, and support the participation of international exhibitions (Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Malaysia).
A ‘Cosmetics Day’ event will be held and a publication on the history of the 80 years of the cosmetics industry is also in the pipeline.
Chairman Suh Kyung-bae of Amore Pacific said in his opening speech, “Cosmetics is a major industry in Korea that is loved by customers around the world. Despite difficulties such as the pandemic, export volume has continued to increase over the past 10 years, and we are ranked 4th in cosmetics export after France, the United States, and Germany. It is widely recognized for its competitiveness. Now that uncertainty is increasing in the global economy, we need to prepare for change and innovate.”
Kim Sang-hee, a member of the National Assembly of the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a congratulatory speech, “Together with the lawmakers who participated in the ‘National Assembly K-Beauty Forum’ launched in 2017, we will do our best to help Korea’s excellent cosmetics companies develop their capabilities to the fullest and grow into global luxury brands. I hope the association will be more ambitious and have bigger dreams.”
Kim Yu-mi, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, said in a congratulatory speech, “The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety will continue to secure the safety of cosmetics in accordance with the global regulatory system through the declaration of the Future Vision SOP (Science, On-site, Cooperation, Partnership). We will strive to improve industry capabilities and increase industrial competitiveness.”
There are 276 member companies of the Korean Cosmetic Association (225 regular members, 51 associate members) as of December 2023. The budget for 2024 was confirmed at U$ 2.5 million.
