KOPI O KOSONG PENG SIEW TAI
Life can't get more complicated than that.
I recently overheard that exact beverage order given at a cafe & the perplexed look on the counter staff was priceless as her brain went into a meltdown.
For those not in the know, the order was for a Ice Black Coffee No Sugar, Less Sugar.
I have been on that side of the table alot recently. People having expectations of me that left me baffled, puzzled, confused..
99% of what I do is driven by passion, care & concern. Not expecting anything in return except a small fee and success for these folks. I do hope for a referral every now & maybe a Kopi O once in awhile. I'm cheap, I've been told. (I may have misunderstood the connotation)
I noticed that folks have started to order from me both no sugar and less sugar in the same breath. An order that I can't possibly fulfill.
And what used to be flavourful coffee is now seen as passe, unsophisticated even rough & tasteless.
I really should be glad that they have graduated from my humble kopitiam table & started to sip on delicate blue mountain in fine china. But I do feel
I am learning that some days, no matter what, you'll be expected to serve Kopi O Kosong Peng Siew Tai.
For now, the table will be just for me & my Kopi O.

6 年Haha, for the subject, that’s definitely an oxymoron.
Sometimes you have to deal with kosong sotongs who do not know what they want. That is life.

6 年Mine will just be "kosong". By the way, I've always been curious to know what dialect is "siew tai"?? I was told it's not Mandarin nor Cantonese...I've asked the counter staff before and most gave me a blank look ??
