Kolbe Catholic College Embarks on Solar Project for a Sustainable Future
Kolbe Catholic College, a prominent Year 7 to 12 secondary school in Melbourne's northern suburbs, is launching an ambitious Solar Project to enhance sustainability and educate its students and community.
The focal point of this initiative is a cutting-edge 100 KW solar system complete with storage battery to be installed on the schools Stadium roof. This system will eventually power the eagerly awaited STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Centre, set for construction in early 2024, with a goal to be entirely sustainable.
One of the key features of this Solar Project is a prominent display that will showcase real-time power usage and the amount of energy generated from the solar panels, giving students and visitors alike the opportunity to witness the school's commitment to environmental sustainability in action.
In collaboration with Enervest, Kolbe Catholic College will add a 100KWp solar system with a 100kWh battery to the STEM Centre, designed for efficiency and integration with the existing 300KW solar system. This addition is projected to reduce grid usage by 21% in the first year, with energy independence reaching up to 70% in summer.

Sustainability is integrated into the curriculum through the "Plan for The Planet" initiative, inspiring students to champion environmental advocacy. A student shared, "Our commitment to sustainability is a testament to our generation's determination to create a better world."

Kolbe Catholic College has generated 586MwH of its own power since launching its sustainability project, continuing its exploration of green initiatives.
