Knowledge Vs Skills

Knowledge Vs Skills

It takes years to acquire knowledge and it is a continuous process. People go to schools, colleges, read books, search the internet for relevant resources to acquire knowledge. For some It is a means to get a desired job, for others it's their hobby and for few it's meditation. Lot of time people work hard to acquire certain knowledge yet to others they have to put in less effort.?

Skill is putting knowledge into practice to solve a particular issue or situation in hand. Application of knowledge to effectively and efficiently solve a problem within a time constraint is considered a skill. Skill is an implementation aspect of a knowledge area.

What is the most important skill or knowledge??

My son was writing a persuasive piece on “Should we all go to college?” and he went against the motion. His argument was that most tech tycoons are college dropouts still they are billionaires and popular, then why should we go to college?

We all get fascinated with the end results. Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey and few more in the whole world, were college dropouts yet enormously successful. No doubt they were visionary, they thought about bringing revolution, they were great in gathering a team of knowledgeable and skilled people who made their vision possible. We can definitely say that some of these billionaires were dropouts but can we say with the same conviction about the people who were and are a part of their Teams? Those people were the unsung heroes who constantly believed in acquiring knowledge through continuous efforts, higher education and research. They might have been from Harvard, Oxford, Stanford or from many other esteemed or ordinary colleges & schools around the world. Formal educations are structured and cover wider conceptual and fundamental aspects oftentimes gives insight into the interdependency of other knowledge areas.

The Internet has brought a great revolution in the way we acquire knowledge and develop skills. Before the Internet revolution we had few options of learning resources. Irrespective of one’s learning style we had to only depend on the available resources in hand. Now based on one's personal learning style there is a huge pool of learning resources to choose from.?

To Conclude, Knowledge and skills are complementary to each other. Knowledge without skill? Practice and relevant training can make things possible. Skill without knowledge? In the short term maybe it can work where there is not much scope of revolution or sudden changes, but in the long term for survival one has to resort to acquiring knowledge and skill both at the same time.?
