Knowledge is a wonderful thing and yet that knowledge needs to put into action, accompanied by feedback for it to REALLY transform us.
During my #coaching education, I, along with my colleagues, learned a lot of different principles and techniques, such as how to be curious, what powerful questions are made of, that coaching is not therapy, that each person is wonderfully made and totally unique in all the world, how to acknowledge somebody, and be fully transparent.
While learning the principles and techniques, the cohort members put them into action with our trainers providing real time feedback. By receiving this feedback we learned what we are doing correctly and what we need to work on. Repetition of correct activities helped us to become better at a technique, or our understanding of a principle. As we increased our coaching activities, practiced in areas such as during classes and working with our clients, these principles and techniques became part of us in the form of values.
After building that foundation, to become a credentialed coach is to go through a higher level of practice, review, supervision, and examinations. The purpose of this process is to verify that the knowledge and experience have truly become part of who we are as professional coaches.
The same happens within each of us during our life. We learn certain principles and techniques through education and practice, and hopefully we received feedback about what is good and what we need to improve upon. But what if you are seeking to change something within yourself? Whom should you partner with to help you with the navigation?
This is why people that are seeking a better version of themselves should seek out someone that has been through a transformational experience themselves.
Until next time,
Charles Cain
