Sour water treatment in refinery
Summary of the process:
Degassing: The sour water feed, which contains hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and ammonia (NH3), first enters a degasser to remove gases.
Storage: The degassed water is then stored in a sour water tank.
Stripping: The water is pumped into a stripper column where it is heated by a reboiler. This heating causes H2S and NH3 to separate from the water as gases.
Gas Purification: The gases rise through the column and are purified by a reflux system, which condenses heavier hydrocarbons.
Gas Exit: The purified gases exit at the top of the stripper and are sent to a sulfur recovery unit.
Treated Water: The treated water exits near the bottom of the column, is cooled by a heat exchanger, and is then discharged or reused.
This process ensures that the wastewater is treated to remove toxic substances before being released, helping to meet environmental protection standards.
