Knowledge Management: The Importance Release Notes hold for an Up-to-Date Knowledge Base

Talking about the IT sector, work does not end upon the successful project deployment. What makes it consistent and the client retained is the post-development support. This is because when a customer starts using an application, only then are all the possible use cases truly tested.

Same is the case with a product knowledge base. It is never a “job done” once the knowledge base is in place. For a knowledge base to be effective, it needs to be up-to-date at all times. This is where the release notes come into play.

As SaaS products have taken the IT world by a storm, rapid release cycles have become a norm. Where the monthly feature releases (in utmost product stability) keeps the whole development house engaged, urgent change requests/bug fixes shipped via Hotfixes pose an additional challenge.

With the shipment of each release, your customers need to know what feature has been introduced and what workflow they need to follow in order to put the enhancement to use. The documentation of what happens after the initial deployment is referred to as release notes. Apart from their documentation, it is necessary to incorporate them in the existing knowledge base so that it remains updated with the latest features and enhancements your product has to offer.
