Location independence became an idea that transformed the way I thought about my career. After reading Tim Ferriss' book The 4-Hour Workweek many years ago I leveraged my professional results to achieve location independence and the ability to work remotely.
In many organizations, in-person visibility creates perception.
"If you are not in the office, you are not working."
Knowledge work is about results and impact.
You may be required to work from home in the coming days and weeks and it is your perfect opportunity to achieve a permanent remote work arrangement. Your goal should be to get your manager's buy-in that you are more valuable to the company working outside of the office.
Set yourself up for success by following these steps:
- Make each remote day your most productive day ever.
- Make sure that your results are quantifiable and benefit your employer.
- Over-communicate what you accomplished each day, any blockers you have, and what you plan to accomplish tomorrow.
