Knowledge Capital v.2
"The illiterate of the future will not be the person who cannot read. It will be the person who does not know how to learn." Alvin Toeffler?
Hello, and Happy 2024! After observing Martin Luther King Jr. Day yesterday, I've returned with a new inspiration and dedication for doing from the ground up to create changes dreamed of and yearned for but considered too dangerous or impossible.?
I want to thank the people who have supported us so far. As a refresher,?
I am JP, the founder and current executive director of Singular XQ, an open-source, non-profit innovation firm. We have an engaged network of 40 advisors and volunteers, which is growing constantly.
Here is our impossible dream.
It is the responsibility of curious people who understand to reclaim innovation from private interests and prioritize the public good. The public domain is where innovation belongs, and we must ensure that it benefits the most people worldwide and not an entitled few.
We realize that dream through three vectors of action:
Shock and Awe
In?Future Shock, Alvin Toffler describes what happens to humans when the events subject them to too much change all at once. "Future shock is the shattering stress and disorientation that we induce in individuals by subjecting them to too much change in too short a time."

The current moment is concerning because we are dealing with the shock of the new amid the shock of a public pandemic, the residue of which still hangs about us, largely unnamed or identified. The virus has coincided (for several reasons still being sussed out) with a new outbreak of respiratory illnesses and general, and the phenomenon of viral persistence and "long haul" Covid sufferers show that as a global society, we are suffering chronic CNS impacts and overall immunological impacts that continue to plague us but essentially go unaddressed. The symptoms and treatments for these effects include therapies that make individuals susceptible to the power of suggestion and dampen their ability to think critically even further.
The acceleration of tech innovation during this period will be studied for a long time into the future as the effects of the pandemic are more fully understood. For right now, as Naomi Klein and others have pointed out, Futureshock can also be seized upon to emphasize what she called the Shock Doctrine. We warn against ascribing too much conspiratorial organization to events that are essentially "Black Swans," as Nassim Taleb described them, but point to the long history of economics, sociology, and psychology that undergird Klein's controversial analysis.
No matter your political orientation, a representative republic that relies on voting is undergoing this kind of disorientation is in peril. There can be many opportunities for bad actors to take advantage. And not all of them have to have the collective power of organized privatization from the state level. There can be what some call "stochastic" disruption when multiple, diffuse, distributed, and decentralized efforts work on different small fronts to create disruptions that consolidate power by necessity.
So, we have come into 2024 with a renewed focus on educating the public on tech innovation and emerging technology free of money interests. Look for a new format for this newsletter beginning next week.
In the meantime, we need your help. Please think of us like NPR or PBS for technology. Here are five ways you can help us:

10 个月I love what you’re doing Jennifer. This sounds like a great cause. It’s something that I care a lot about, but aspects of which I have not been as aware. “NPR for technology”. I like it ?? On our weekly AI, Innovation and Ethics chat on LinkedIn and Clubhouse, we talk about the latest in tech innovation and we have discussed the need for international cooperation from a wider consortium of earth citizens to make the decisions which will impact our future — Instead of letting it be decided by default by eloquent CEOs who are only trying to maximize shareholder value. We need to consider the interests of all stakeholders, not just one company’s shareholders. As I’m fond of saying… Stakeholders > Shareholders. And all stakeholders includes everyone who will be effected by the rapid tech innovation. Can’t wait to see what your organization has in store next!
