Know your "self" to get clarity in purpose of life

Do you know how many people leave this planet with regret? Even if, people are educated in , more than 90% of them end up living their lives and then dying with regret and remorse. The number one regret of people who are on their death beds is that, they wish they lived a life that was true to themselves and not the life that others expected of them. In other words, association between their life and life-situation was not playful, joyful and fulfilled. The second is that most people don’t know who they truly are and what they want in life. Hence, they say “I wish I hadn't worked so hard.". It means again they had an ambiguous correlation between in knowing the meaningful and purposeful need of life and investment of their effort and energy in life-situation. As Roy T. Bennett rightly said; “If you don’t know who you are, then you don’t know what you want”.

You might have already spent reasonable time in this world by now and you might also be feeling like, even if you've invested so much time and energy into your degree, career, family, building assets and generating followers, but it's not really giving you a sense of bliss, meaning and fulfillment. Also, let me ask you in different way, have you ever felt that you have to work compulsively to cover a living as because of the social expectation in a rate-race? And given a satisfactory option; you will opt out and spend your time a blissful way? If that is so, then probably you do not know who you really are beyond your physical and psychological self (i.e., body and mind). Also, there is no meaningful involvement between your life and life-situation. In other words, you are illusively assuming your association with your society and organization as your ultimate belongingness.?

Now, let’s explore few impacts to life because of ignorance about one’s own “self” beyond the body and mind.

Firstly, in one of the TEDx message from Adam Leipzig (an American film producer); where he has explained about an eye-opening statistic from his batch reunion (alumni from Yale University). He explained how an informal survey was conducted during the annual alumni meet; where it was observed that all of them were having abundance and affluence in their material life; however nearly 80% of them were unhappy, miserably unfulfilled and without any meaning in life. Rest of 20% were clear about their purpose of life and they were completely involved with their life-situation; i.e., not entangled out of compulsion. ?Secondly, in another similar article from New York Times, they released a special magazine feature on The Future of Work, and one of the articles within the feature was titled “America's Professional Elite: Wealthy, Successful, and Miserable” by Charles Duhigg. He describes going to his Harvard Business School reunion, fifteen years after graduating, and encountering his former classmates, many of whom are highly successful and acclaimed individuals. While they are, with few exceptions, most of them deeply unhappy and miserably unfulfilled. He shares the example of a man who makes $1.2 million a year in a job that he hates, finds incredibly stressful and meaningless, and can’t figure out how to escape.?

Thirdly; I came across few excerpt from in an article on Steve Jobs, one of the most innovative and successful entrepreneurs; “In other eyes, my life is the essence of success, but aside from work, I have little joy. And in the end, wealth is just a fact of life to which I am accustomed.”

?“At this moment, lying on the bed, sick and remembering all my life, I realize that all my recognition and wealth that I have is meaningless in the face of imminent death,” it goes on to say. “You can hire someone to drive a car for you, make money for you — but you cannot rent someone to carry the disease for you. One can find material things, but there is one thing that cannot be found when it is lost — life.”

?“Your true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world. Whether you’re flying first class, or economy class — if the plane crashes, you crash with it.”

?While there is still no complete clarity in truth behind what was his last words; there are plenty of evidences in this world that, people in spite of their material abundance and affluence, they realize the crisis in meaning and purpose of life only in last phase of their life. All these are by product of life-long focus and investment on entangled association against involved association with life-situation. It’s like people are sitting on tail side (i.e., outer side) of branch and enjoying the adventurous process of cutting the head side (i.e., inner side) of the branch of a tree, till they realize the real fall and failure when they succeed in cutting the trunk in totality.

Any task we do with entangled association with your life-situation, it piles up the unconscious aversion and cravings in our inner-self; which is beyond our physical and psychological self (i.e., body and mind). And this reappears as unfulfillment, meaninglessness, regret and remorse in life. Hence most people die without knowing what their life's purpose was. It’s like a tall and glorious architecture remembers it weaker foundation only when it collapses. In simple, investing our valuable resources (i.e., time and energy) of this life only with life-situation (i.e., outer adventure) is ineffective, inefficient and meaningless without sufficient investment in knowing life (or self); which is an inner adventure. That’s why Eleesha Heart said; "True clarity and purpose emerge when we see ourselves -as we truly are".?

Hence, it’s high time to know our life (or “self”) beyond body and mind, which can motivate playful and joyful involvement in our professional success & excellence rather than entanglement with it; which will for sure propel us towards the art of possibility to live like a Smart-Sage!!!
