The Knowing-Doing Gap

The Knowing-Doing Gap

Over the past 20 years I have worked with over 15,000 clients on a one-to-one basis as a High-Performance Coach. From business executives/entrepreneurs to world champion athletes in a range of sports to actors preparing for stage to clients who simply want to change unwanted habits and behaviours.

What I have found is that everyone who I have been face to face with all have two things in common- they all have the potential and ability to make whatever changes they have come to me for.

They simply lack one missing ingredient namely the know-how. There is a Knowing-Doing Gap and it seems as we get older and even know we learn more that gap seems to get wider.

Two simple but major elements are missing when a person is stuck in any part of their lives:

? the right strategies

? the right mindset

Now this might sound obvious but usually what I find is many people can tell me why they are stuck and what they need to do and yet they do not do it.

Think about it, I am sure there is something you want to achieve in your life, and you know what you need to do to get there yet you continue to go through the same unwanted behaviours daily.

As human beings we continue to do things we do not want to do, we get results we know we do not want and yet we continue to do the same thing day in day out.

There is an enormous difference between what most people know and what they will do.

Here lies the problem.

They main reason why people do not change is because they look to their behaviour and replacing it with something new.

The problem with this is even thought the behaviour is causing the unwanted result it is a secondary cause.

You have got to look even deeper and ask yourself, “What is causing and driving the behaviour,”

The primary cause of the behaviour and therefore the results come from the Subconscious mind in the form of Paradigms.

The paradigm is causing the unwanted behaviour and therefore must be replaced for permanent change to take place in a person’s life.

When you start to understand how powerful paradigms you are will understand why habits can be so difficult to replace.

Knowing how to change is not enough. Most people know how to change. Results come from our behaviours and our behaviours and cause by the paradigms.

Paradigms tell how a person is programmed.

Changing the paradigm changes the behaviour therefore moving you toward the results you desire.

When you look at successful people and high achievers, they are successful not primarily because of what they know but rather because of what they do and have been doing over a sustained period. Their paradigms and programming have been aligned with the results they desired. It is their empowering paradigms that have been producing the results.

To help you close that Knowing-Doing Gap you must start focusing on your old paradigms to help you understand why you are doing what you are doing then you can start the process of replacing the old programming and start to align your behaviours with what you really want.
